It's been quite awhile since I posted on here... (hrm... what's new... what's new...)

Hmmm... I've been listening to Bon Iver.  If your'e unfamiliar with the name, check it out.  Now.  The singer is Justin Vernon, and his latest album, For Emma, Forever Ago, is really fantastic.  It was recorded by himself in three months that Justin spent secluded in a cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin, where his only intention was to recover from the hardships of the previous year.  The result is really great stuff.

Ummm... I've discovered twitter.  Twitter is amazing.  It's very simple, and you can mold it to be what you want it to be, which is nice.

Dumdeedum... Psi Lambda Xi has 6 new pledges for this year, and I love them all dearly.  I really like where our organization is heading.  I can totally see these girls taking up leadership positions in the future.  Yay.

*whistle*... I'm working hard on my senior recital, which is coming up May 2 at 7:30.  I'm really excited about it :)  woot.

Let's see... I have to finish a painting today.  It'll be fun, but it's going to take some work.  It's for a silent auction that I'm attending, and if it's not good, you'll definitely hear me saying, "Who did that piece of crap?!"

It's 7AM, and I'm about to drive home to Indianapolis...  Dad said he'd have breakfast waiting for me, so that's cool.  And yummy :)

I'll try to keep posting.

*hugs*

The earthquake's rising death toll is heart-breaking.  It's very surreal, having just been to China in January.  My prayers and thoughts go out to all of the victims of this horrendous disaster.

On another sad note, RIP Robert Rauschenberg...

... was awesome :)

It went so well, and everyone seemed to like our 'coffee shop' reception - we had a little Starbucks thing going on...

Aside from a few vocal blips, I think Cat and I are both really proud of what we did, and that's a good feeling to have

Big hugs and thankyous to everyone who came and those who wanted to come but couldn't!

::muah::

... and now it's over!!!  weee!  Now, I have time to stress about everything else :)

tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick...*ding*... IM DONE!!!  Done, Bitches!!!

I'm so happy!  (... cuz I'm a gummi bear... GUMMI BEAR!)

Well... I'm also sleep deprived.  What a way to end: I've now been up for the past 26 hours working on what ended-up being a 13-page, 3700-word paper for my art history class!  Woot!  I just gave a kickass presentation over it, too, which is pretty incredible considering the lack of sleep... I was a little punchy - also a little too excited about my topic.  I apologize to those who had to sit through my uncontrollable perkiness : /

The craziest part of today is that now that I'm done, I don't even get to sleep.  Nope.  I have to pack.  And pack and pack and pack.

... because I'm DONE!

Why do I have to be sick every year for NATS?!?!?  My first year, I drove the five hours, hoping I would make it, but singing just didn't happen.  Last year, I actually competed, but I was sick.  This year, Dr. Irwin even told me I'd be a really good competitor, but if my voice wasn't substantially better this morning, he didn't think I should go...

Frankly, I agree, but it sucks.  However, it is just NATS... I haven't tested my voice yet this morning, but it wasn't looking good last night... argh.

EDIT: I DID go to NATS in the end, and I ended up doing very well at competition.  I've received so many great comments from people today, and I'm so grateful.

It's funny how things work out sometimes...

So, for the next 5 days, Dr. Brenner and his wife, who've come all the way from Germany, are visiting the DePauw School of Music.  Both highly accomplished musicians, Dr. Brenner is a distinguished director who's worked with all of the big names in opera, and his wife had an impressive opera career and has been teaching voice students for 34 years.

To get to the point, they're amazing.

Today, I had the pleasure of working with both of them, an experience I'll never forget, and the feedback I got was exactly what I needed to hear after having such a rough sophomore year.  In my coaching, after hearing/watching me, Frau Brenner said that I was excellent, and in the staging of the scene, Dr. Brenner seemed to be really pleased with how quickly we picked things up.

To get that kind of feedback, even the unspoken kind, was completely rewarding after spending a year in the wings.  It made me feel like I didn't miss out on a year of singing, and that I might be close to where everyone else is vocally.

I might be able to do this :)

Prof. Jay White also stopped me in the hall today to tell me that he thought I sounded really good at my proficiency.  I love that man.

It's hard to believe that I very nearly had a nervous breakdown after biology this morning, considering today has really turned out to be a good day for my self-esteem.

... it's been awhile...

:(

So, last weekend, my lesson was canceled, because my voice teacher was recovery from surgery.  Anyway, now this weekend has come around and his wife just called me at 7:45am to tell me that she had to take him to the hospital last night, my lesson would have to be rescheduled, and he'd call me later...

Oh, Dr. Irwin, I really hope you're okay!

It's going to be hard, but I've decided not to read the latest installment of Harry Potter until I complete this evil paper...

... and because of how busy I am until the its due date, I'll have to wait a good 5 days after the book is out...

I hope I make it.

huh.
My parents are leaving for Bermuda at 5am tomorrow morning, and they won't be back until Sunday.  Weird.

In other news, because everyone else is on vacation, my brother and I alone are left to do the music for church this week.

No Pressure.

INDY

Last week, we found a large bump on my dogs face.  We took him to the vet on Monday, and there's 50% chance that it's a melignant tumor - that means cancer, and that's bad.  It's too far back to be an absessed tooth, but they said it might be a pollup.  They gave us anti-biotics in case it's an infection, but they haven't made any difference.  They also tested a sample of the lump, but it was inconclusive.  He goes in tomorrow for futher testing.  We'll see... It's just so unfair, because he's so oblivious - nothing is wrong with him otherwise.  And we never would have known if I hadn't groomed him last week.

I'm worried about my puppy :(
